The Barnes Children’s Literature Festival in southwest London is the UK’s largest dedicated children’s literature festival with over 100 author events, performances, workshops and free activities for young book fans and their families in June each year.
Barnes also delivers the largest free literature festival Schools Programme in the UK providing over 20,000 places free for state funded primary schools at outreach centres all over London, from Twickenham Stadium to Tower Hamlets.
The Festival was founded in 2014 by local parents – a book festival for families curated by families – and Barnes is the only national literature festival completely organised and produced by over 150 unpaid volunteers.
The next London Primary Schools Programme takes place 18 May to 22 June 2026, with the Public Festival taking place Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June 2026.
