Set in Scotland’s Book Town, Wigtown Book Festival is a vibrant celebration of literature and ideas held each autumn in the stunning Dumfries and Galloway countryside. In 2024, it was named Outstanding Cultural Event at Scotland’s national event awards, The Thistles.

Featuring more than 200 events for all ages, for 10 days each autumn the festival transforms a rural community of fewer than 1,000 people, bringing together established and emerging writers from across the UK. Over 25 years, it has established a reputation for its intimate atmosphere and innovative programming, including site-specific events and cross-artform collaborations.

Founded as part of a social and economic regeneration project, the festival maintains strong community roots, and its professional team is supported by more than 100 volunteers. As well as the flagship autumn gathering, the festival also runs year-round activities, including programmes for young people, an autumn schools tour and the international Wigtown Poetry Prizes.
