Budleigh Music Festival runs for 10 days each year in late June/early July in the pretty rural seaside town of Budleigh Salterton, East Devon. Events are held throughout the day and in the evening across the town. We pride ourselves in bringing the brightest and best in classical music to a variety of local venues, with larger concerts held at St Peter’s Church, and include some events that celebrate the lighter side of live music such as jazz or folk. Our programming strategy means that we draw audiences from across the country, but more importantly our local community and young people have easy access to hear world-class artists with acclaimed reputations as well as rising stars and cutting-edge explorations of live music. Growing in scope, our education and outreach programme facilitates workshops and concert attendance for school-children from across the region. Our Patron, Bob Chilcott, has helped refine our aims to increase youth participation in choral singing, and in addition we work with local groups and partner charities supporting the elderly and marginalised communities. The Festival itself is a charity, and although it employs an Artistic Director, Jason Thornton, and the services of professional production support it is only possible through the efforts of more than 70 volunteers (and a lot of fund-raising!). In 2026 we will be presenting music from across four centuries, with early classical masterpieces right through to contemporary greats and world premieres.
