Ramsgate Arts

2020 dates TBC

In March 2009 a group of Ramsgate residents and arts professionals came together to form a charitable organisation. We wanted to use culture to help in the regeneration of the town; we saw its huge potential and knew we could use our skills to move it on a bit, to energise and enthuse, to fight apathy and create a buzz of excitement. The overall aim is to provoke opportunities to develop local arts practice, to provide high quality entertainment and activities for residents and to attract visitors from around the UK.

Ramsgate Arts has produced a launch event ‘LOVE: HATE: HOPE: RAMSGATE’,  a series of projects and activities including ‘ TURNER: 10 Sketches’, an improvised play exploring Turner’s life as part of Turner Contemporary’s opening weekend and ‘A SUMMER SQUALL’ a multi-arts festival over the August bank holiday. We are currently working with Battersea Arts Centre on a partnership project ‘Looping the Loop’. It’s part of the national Collaborative Touring Network, working in consortia with the Tom Thumb Theatre and freelance director Ellie Jones. See our website www.loopingtheloopfestival.org.uk for more details about this ongoing project.

A Summer Squall drew crowds of over 20,000 people to theatre, dance, film, exhibitions, workshops and Thanet Open Studios. Artists have included OperaUpClose, Wendy Cope, The Caravan Gallery and the Vintage Mobile Cinema, performing alongside many of East Kent’s best professional practitioners.
